2013 Speaker’s Schedule

January – Wednesday 1/9/2013
7:00 pm – January’s speaker is Chris Merkle. Chris will be presenting a class in how to support your bees and feeding for winter.

February – 2013
Beginning Beekeeping Classes – Learn all you need to know about becoming a beekeeper. Series of 4 classes, on Wednesday (2/6, 2/13, 2/20 & 2/27) 2013 starting at 7pm.
Note: The cost for the Beginning Beekeeping Classes is $45 which includes membership into GCBA. Educational material “Beekeeping for Dummies” may be purchased during the classes for an additional cost.

March – Wednesday 3/13/2013
7:00 pm – March’s speakers include Denise Ellsworth and Doug Sponslor. Denise Ellsworth is Program Director and Extension Educator (OARDC Wooster) and will be leading a discussion on Native Pollinators. Doug Sponsler will be providing an update on his Master’s Research Program and Success of recently installed bee packages.

April – Wednesday 4/10/2013
7:00PM Hive Management and how to make “Splits” – A pre-conference introduction of the various methodologies to splitting your hive.

7:00PM Bill T. Mondack will speak on Pesticides that Affect Suburban Beekeeping and Good Alternatives. Bill lives near Wellington, Ohio on a small mixed crop and fruit farm and has been a beekeeper since 1996. Bill is also a Certified Pesticide Applicator and a member of the Lorain County Beekeepers Association.

August – Kirt Ward will be discussing fall/winter preparations. Learn how to help your bees BEFORE the start of cold weather. There is much to do and think about. Kirt is a 20 year beekeeper.
September – Queen Rearing Class speakers. Fifteen members took the Queen Rearing Class. They will be sharing what they learned.
October – John and George Sinanis will introduce NEW breakthrough technology for mite control. MITE ZAPPER is chemical free and 85 – 95% effective in killing Varroa mites.
November – Carmen Conrad of Conrad Hive and Honey will give a presentation on beeswax from start to finish. She was 2007 Ohio Beekeeper of theYear.
December – GCBA holiday potluck party and improv night. Potluck dinner with members sharing their most memorable experiences from the season.
