February 2020 Beginning Beekeeping Classes at Rocky River Nature Center

This four part course is for anyone interested in learning more about honey bees and can help you decide if beekeeping is for you. Basic honey bee biology and beekeeping techniques, equipment needs, site selection, best management practices, bee diseases and more will be presented.

Classes are held at the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Nature Center located at 24000 Valley Parkway, North Olmsted, OH 44070, phone 440.734.6660.

The 2020 class will be held Wednesdays in February on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.  Doors are open at 6:30pm for check in and light refreshments. Instruction begins at 7:00pm and runs until 9:00pm.

The GCBA Beginning Beekeeping course cost is $75. With the course you will receive a Family Membership to GCBA, subscription to the GCBA monthly e-newsletter, packet of important reference materials ($25 value) and a one-year Individual Membership to Ohio State Beekeepers Association, subscription to the quarterly OSBA e-newsletter and the OSBA Beginner Beekeeper Welcome Packet ($30 value).

This course will utilize Dr. Kirsten S.Traynor’s book, Simple Smart Beekeeping as a guide. A limited number of books will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis for $20 each.

Preregistration and payment are appreciated. Payments may be mailed (see address below) or feel free to attend our January meeting to sign up for classes, learn something new and meet some fellow beekeepers.

If you are registering the day of the first course, please plan to arrive at 6:30pm so we may start instruction promptly at 7:00pm.
